Hello and welcome to my studio and the forum of Singingworld.com.
I am Leslie. On YouTube I am known as maestroLeslie, on Skype my user name is J-Leslie. Just Leslie is fine with me.
This forum is about the voice: how it works for singing and speaking publicly. You are welcome to share ideas and experiences that you have about the processes that make your voice do what you want.
I can suggest many areas that need enlightenment for most people. One of the fundamental aspects of the working of the voice is how the breath is used when singing or speaking publicly.
I have learned that the best and easiest use of the breath when singing is phonating or vocalizing with inspiration. What is inspiration?
Inspiration is the process of breathing in and is an instinct reflex. Inhalation is another term meaning the normal massive movement of air into the lungs when breathing especially heavily.
I describe another level of “breathing in” as “intonation inspiration”. This level of breathing occurs during vocalization in a “call”. The instinctive response of listeners to a call is to turn attention to the one beckoning. A “shout” or “scream” is made with air forced out of the lungs while vocalizing. The instinctive reaction to a scream or shout by those who hear is to run away. The obvious choice of the two if you want to have an audience is the “call”. The “call” is just as loud as a “scream”, but does not hurt; and if you call all night long you can still be singing with ease when the birds start as dawn rises.
